Saraogi Hospital & IRIS IVF Centre is a fertility and women’s health hospital in Mumbai. Dr. Rajendra M. Saraogi founded it on 12 October 1980. For more than four decades, it has been one of the city’s most trusted names in fertility care.
Today, it is a multi-centre group offering advanced IVF treatment in Mumbai. However, it began as a single nursing home. In fact, one consultant saw a gap and decided to fill it himself. This is that story.

How Saraogi Hospital began in Malad in 1980
When Dr. Saraogi arrived in Malad in the late 1970s, something troubled him. The neighbourhood was growing fast. Yet it had barely five or six hospitals. Worse still, general practitioners ran most of them. As a result, women who needed a gynaecologist often got general advice instead.
So on 12 October 1980, he acted. He opened his own nursing home and called it Saraogi Maternity and General Hospital. In fact, records suggest he was among the first gynaecologists in Malad to start a dedicated maternity home. Above all, he did it to serve a growing community, not to run a business.
He was well prepared, too. By 1980, he had already taught for five years in municipal medical colleges. Because of that, he felt ready to handle almost any case himself. And he did.

A family-led fertility practice across two generations
In the beginning, Dr. Saraogi lived with his parents on the hospital premises. Home and work shared one address, so the priorities matched. He also ran free medical camps regularly. Moreover, he treated patients who could not afford care without sending a bill.
A few years later, he married Dr. Rashmi Saraogi. She soon joined him in the work. Together, they grew a small maternity home into something much larger. Over time, that growth passed to a second generation.
Dr. Rashmi Saraogi, senior obstetrician
and fertility specialist
Dr. Rashmi Saraogi holds an MD and DGO, with more than 35 years of experience. She is a senior obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist. In fact, she is one of the people who shaped this hospital into what it is today. She joined the practice in its early years, soon after marrying the founder, and has cared for Mumbai families ever since.
Her work covers the full span of women’s health. She handles obstetrics and pregnancy care, gynaecology, and laparoscopic surgery. Over the years, she has also helped refine the hospital’s fertility and IVF techniques. Many of her patients return to her for their second and third pregnancies. Furthermore, a good number arrive through word-of-mouth referrals, which says a lot about the trust she has built.
Working alongside the founder, and later their son Dr. Mohit Saraogi, she helped turn a single Malad maternity home into the fertility group it is now.

The fertility centre today
Over time, the hospital has become a focused women’s health and fertility centre. At its core sits the IRIS IVF Centre. Today it supports couples through more than 1,000 pregnancies every year. As a result, its care now covers the full arc of a woman’s reproductive life:
Advanced Embryology Lab and Technology
The lab is where much of the detail lives. Specifically, it offers IVF and ICSI, IMSI, blastocyst culture and transfer, laser-assisted hatching, PGT, and time-lapse embryo monitoring. In addition, it provides egg and embryo cryopreservation, ovarian tissue cryopreservation, IVM, NIPT, sequential embryo transfer, PRP ovarian rejuvenation, and AI-assisted embryo selection.
More than forty years of experience sit behind every case. Patients also get a treatment plan built around their own diagnosis. Moreover, the team shares transparent IVF cost guidance. Above all, it gives honest answers about IVF success rates rather than guarantees.

The future of Saraogi Hospital & IRIS IVF Centre
Today the practice runs centres across Mumbai, in Malad, Ghatkopar and Thane. As a result, specialist care sits closer to where families live.
The next chapter is bigger still. Soon, the team will move to a new premises about three times the current size. It will bring modern facilities the old building never had. According to the founder, this step became possible because of Dr. Mohit and Dr. Roopa Prasad. In other words, the decision came from the generation now leading the way.
So the story comes full circle. One specialist saw a gap in 1980. Today, a multi-centre group carries the same promise forward: specialist care, given honestly.
A letter from our founder

To everyone who has walked through our doors, and to the colleagues who have trusted us with their patients: When I opened this hospital on 12 October 1980, I was a young gynaecologist. Honestly, I had little idea how far it would go. Back then, Malad had almost no specialist care for women. So my plan was simple. I wanted to open a proper nursing home and treat anyone who needed it, whether or not they could pay.
In those early years, I lived with my parents on the premises. Whenever I could, I ran free camps. To me, that was simply how medicine should be practised. I never set out to build something large. Instead, the people who joined me changed everything. First, my wife, Dr. Rashmi Saraogi, came into the work and stayed for decades. Later, my son Dr. Mohit and my daughter-in-law Dr. Roopa Prasad brought a new generation of fertility medicine into the house. Slowly, a maternity home became a centre that helps more than a thousand families a year.
I have been fortunate in my career. Yet the honour I value most carries no certificate. Quite simply, families have trusted us with the most important moment of their lives. Now, we are preparing to move into a far larger home. I can write that sentence only because the next generation is ready. The promise, however, stays the same as in 1980: honest, skilled, compassionate care for every woman and couple who comes to us.
With gratitude,
Dr. Rajendra M. Saraogi
